How to send a takedown notice
The law lists six things a notice must contain. A notice missing any of them is not valid, and we cannot act on it β so please include all six:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you say was infringed.
- Identification of the material you want removed, with enough detail for us to find it (a direct link is best).
- Your address, phone number and email.
- A statement that you believe in good faith the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement that the information is accurate and β under penalty of perjury β that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.
Send it to the agent above. Notices sent to support or to any other address may be delayed.
If your work was removed by mistake
You can send a counter-notice. The law lists four things it must contain:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material removed and where it appeared before removal.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address and phone number, and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district β or, if you are outside the United States, of any district where we may be found.
Repeat infringers
We terminate the accounts of people who infringe repeatedly. That is a condition of the protection this page describes, and we apply it.
Careful: a false claim has a cost
Anyone who knowingly claims that material is infringing when it is not can be held liable for damages, including costs and lawyers' fees. This protects the professional whose own photo could otherwise be taken down on someone's whim.
This page restates the statute in plain words. It is information, not legal advice.
